Laser pointers can make self-driving cars halucinate objects that aren’t there

Recent testing indicates that the light and radar (LIDAR) systems employed by self-driving cars may be vulnerable to attacks using lasers to create "ghost objects". Advanced laser and pulse generators (which can be built for as little as $60) are capable of tricking self-driving cars into "seeing" pedestrians, cars or other road hazards meaning that anyone from the malicious to the benign could theoretically create "ghost" traffic jams at will.
