Despite the huge upsurge in touchscreen and portable computer technology, paper remains an irreplaceable commodity. A recent collaboratory study from researchers at Princeton and UCLA describes a phenomenon called "desirable difficulty", or the use of a method which forces synthesis and deepens understanding of the topic at hand.
