Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Human Factors Engineering or a related field is preferred.
Experience
Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in HSI within complex systems design environments. At least 5 years of experience applying HSI principles in system design, with a preference for 10+ years. Minimum 3 years of experience addressing HSI issues in the marine environment, with a focus on integrating HSI into shipboard system designs.
Commensurate Military Experience
Equivalent military experience is also acceptable, with qualifications such as:Serving as a military officer or enlisted member with direct involvement in ship design, systems engineering, human factors engineering, or shipboard safety programs. Holding positions within Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard commands that focus on human systems integration, ship or system safety, and habitability considerations. Participating in shipboard systems assessments, human performance optimization programs, or HSI-related military projects involving MILSTD1472, MILSTD46855, or other applicable military standards.
Preferred Qualifications
Technical Expertise:
Experience developing, reviewing, and revising critical HSI documentation, such as:
Human Systems Integration Program Plans (HSIPP)
Human Engineering Program Plans (HEPP)
Human Engineering Test Plans (HETP)
Modeling and Simulation Plans and Reports
Manpower Mix Analysis Reports
Spatial and Link Analysis Reports
Shipboard Access Studies
Standards and Guidelines Knowledge
Demonstrated expertise in referencing, interpreting, and applying HSI and human engineering standards such as: MILSTD1472 (Human Engineering) ASTM F1166 (Standard Practice for Human Engineering Design for Marine Systems, Equipment, and Facilities) MILSTD46855 (Human Engineering Requirements for Military Systems, Equipment, and Facilities)
Skills and Competencies
